If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the phenomenal exploration of New York City taxi service by the Design Trust for Public Space. Their publication: Taxi 07 Roads Forward [PDF 8MB] was released a little over a year ago. Lots of great research and a fantastic example of comics used to communicate a service (with illustrations by Jason Little). The second half of the publication concerns strategies for improving the taxi system.
One of the authors/editors is Rachel Abrams, who’s teaching the Service Design for Public Space lecture at ITP this year.
