My friend Dan posted a service concept the other day for a magazine exchange system for airplanes. It’s an interesting idea that addresses a real need. I’ve noticed ad hoc magazine sharing on many of my flights where people leave behind the magazines/newspapers they’ve finished reading. The flight crew collects those materials to supplement their magazine racks for the next flight. I even remember someone leaving behind a paperback novel for this purpose. Once you’ve finished with a magazine it has almost no additional value, so leaving it behind for others is a nice bit of altruism.
This kind of thing works reasonably well when it’s confined to the plane (with a one-way influx of new material), but I’m not sure how well it would scale to an airport. Once you disembark, finding a kiosk to turn in your magazine is the least of your worries.
