SDN 2009 Conference Call for Papers
The Service Design Network has issued a call for papers for their upcoming conference on October 26th and 27th. They’re interested in a wide range of topics with the intention of going beyond the basics of service design.
The call includes case studies, papers and workshops. I can’t find explicit confirmation but it looks like they’ve opened up the submission process rather than restricting it to SDN organizational members as I believe was the case with the Amsterdam conference last year. Abstracts are due by August 15th, so you’ve got less than two weeks to drum up 150 words.
For reasons that aren’t immediately clear the conference this year will be held on a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic ocean with no discernible service design presence. Madeira is hundreds of miles from the nearest international airport but you can always take the weekly ferry from the Portuguese mainland if you’d rather not fly and don’t mind spending a day en route.
It took me a while to discover the venue’s connection with Carnegie Mellon University (which explains quite a bit) but it still seems ridiculously isolated to me.
